Buying a bike · EvelRide Motorcycle Company · 2 min read

The best first motorcycle is one you look forward to riding and feel comfortable handling. That sounds obvious, until someone tells you to buy twice the bike you wanted because you will “grow into it.” Start with your own needs.

Picture an ordinary Tuesday.

Are you commuting across town, taking weekend back roads, or planning longer trips? Write down the ride you will do most often. Your everyday use should carry more weight than a hypothetical cross-country adventure.

Try the fit before choosing the badge.

With help from the shop, sit on a few different motorcycles. Check your reach to the bars and controls, your leg position, and how comfortably you can support the bike at a stop. Seat height alone does not tell the whole story. Seat width, weight distribution, and your own proportions all affect how a bike feels.

Leave room in the budget.

The motorcycle is only part of the purchase. Plan for rider training, protective gear, insurance, registration, and ongoing maintenance. Ask for a written out-the-door price so you can compare the complete purchase, then get an insurance quote for the actual model before committing.

Make a shortlist.

  • What riding will I do most?
  • Can I comfortably reach and operate the controls?
  • Does the total cost leave room for gear and ownership?
  • Am I choosing this for myself, or to impress someone else?

A beginner rider course is a useful place to build skills before shopping. Tell us your experience honestly. Nobody gets extra points for pretending to be an expert.

Visit the showroom and compare riding positions in person.
